80 Year Old With Dementia Lands Record Deal!

When Ted’s son posted video’s of them singing while driving, the 80 year old man became an Internet sensation.   What made the story even better, was that Ted McDermott has dementia, with significant short term memory loss.    A savvy studio signed him for a record deal with proceeds going both to the Alzheimer’s Society and the family.

Ted’s son realized that singing helped his father cope with his dementia, and while his father couldn’t remember what he said hours earlier, his favorite songs were retained in long term memory.

We love this story and the original video posted by the son.   Music is indeed a fabulous tool to engage someone with dementia, and music and singing is also great for brain health.
